WATER LEVEL
Now that the water temperature has dropped, in consultation with the Environment Agency and the Farm, we have instigated a managed increase in water level. This is coming from the pipe in Chairman’s Corner. We have been monitoring water quality, which is excellent, and the level of the lake has already increased several feet.
PONTOONS & DUCKS
This is a reminder to members to not interfere with pontoons. Ducks DO NOT get trapped in the pontoons. They enter and leave at will. If you are concerned then contact the committee. Several members opened one of the corner pontoons in the summer to “release” a “trapped duck”. This pontoon is now partially sunk and may well drag the other next to it down. These cost several thousand pounds each. Any member interfering with pontoons will have their membership revoked.

CARP MATS or CRADLES must be set up whilst fishing (ALL MEMBERS).

LAKE RE-OPENS FROM DAWN 5TH SEPTEMBER 2024
Please check TEXT or EMAIL for NEW GATE CODE
The committee has now considered the fish care and recent issues.
We are pleased to report that our fish stocks are not experiencing any particularly harmful diseases, and that the shutdown has given the fish the necessary time to recover after spawning.
We have not experienced further losses, and our partners ‘The Environment Agency’ have been jointly monitoring the situation and offering valuable advice.
We are aware that several other fisheries are experiencing disease associated problems. Whilst we wish them a speedy recovery, we need to take steps to ensure that diseases are not accidentally transmitted to our fish stocks.
We have therefore taken advice from the Environment Agency and other informed bodies to put some further control measures in place.
For this and other reasons we are introducing some rule changes. There will be no leeway on these changes and no exceptions, they apply to ALL THOSE FISHING and the committee and bailiffs will be enforcing them.
We have decided to open the lake again for SILVER FISHING ONLY and the carp fishing ban will continue for a further short period of a week or so.
With IMMEDIATE effect:
- No intentionally targeting carp!
- Carp matts or cradles must be set up whilst fishing.
- More care is clearly needed in landing carp as there are signs of hook damage. Please play your fish carefully rather than simply “hauling them in”.
- There is to be NO bullying of carp or rough handling and extra care must be shown in landing and returning fish.
- ANTISEPTIC SPRAY must be part of your equipment and used on any fish showing lesions or wounds.
- Keep nets are BANNED for general use.
- Keep nets are permitted only during matches under the strict match rules and guidance of a committee member.
- Equipment such as keep nets, landing nets, matts or cradles and footwear must be thoroughly DRIED out in DAYLIGHT before use on the lake (the EA guidance for this is 48hours).
To be implemented within THE NEXT TWO WEEKS:
- The MAXIMUM hook size will be size 8.
- Landing nets AT LEAST 22’’ in size must be available at your side whilst silver or leisure fishing. We appreciate that both match and leisure anglers may choose to use a smaller net when landing smaller fish, but the larger nets must be available.
We look forward to our members abiding by and supporting these measures.
You may currently land some carp with small lesions whilst silver fishing and whilst these are not a serious problem and mainly caused by stress, please handle carp with care and treat with an antiseptic spray or liquid before returning.

LAKE CLOSURE – UPDATE
Last night (Weds 28th August) a group of committee members fished for carp in order to assess their condition. Whilst we have only had one dead carp since the lake was closed, the majority of fish caught last night still had lesions, although these were improved comapred with 14 days ago.
We do not have KHV as some rumours have suggested and as far as we are aware we have lost only 14 carp. We are in contact with the EA who still believe that the losses are due to secondary bacterial infections due to a combination of factors, including high water temperature (28°C!), spawning, rough fish playing/handling, high algal content and fluctuating oxygen levels. We have an aerator out at the pump house and are monitoring oxygen levels and water quality.
We will be sharing last nights images of the carp caught with the EA today and seeking further advice, but feel it is unfortunately neccesary to keep the lake closed at this time. We realise this will be dissapointing and we thank all Members for their patience and support at this time.
You may of course contact us at anytime through Facebook, Messenger or by email at radac_2024@outlook.com.

LAKE CLOSURE
Following further consultation with the Environment Agency – Great Ouse and Fenland Fisheries Team, the RADAC Committee have decided to close the lake for two weeks to allow fish stocks to recover. This decision has not been taken lightly and we understand that many members will be dissapointed but we consider it neccesary for fish welfare.
The lake will be closed for fishing from dusk on Wednesday 14th August to dawn on Thursday 29th August.
We will use this period to undertake some potentially dusruptive maintenance such as removing line and gear from trees.
Thank you for your understanding and support.

⚠️URGENT NOTICE TO ALL RADAC MEMBERS⚠️
* KEEPNET BAN with immediate effect due to high water temperature
* ALL ANGLERS to carry FISH ANTISEPTIC SPRAY (£4) to treat lesions as shown below
* ALL LANDING NETS and UNHOOKING MATS to be DRIED before use. NO WET GEAR to be brought to the lake. Gear should be dried in sunlight to prevent any disease transmission. Considered more/as effective as sterilisng solution.
* REMINDER THAT ROUGH PLAYING/HANDLING OF FISH WILL RESULT IN A LOSS OF MEMBERSHIP!
* Any DEAD fish to be photographed and reported; Any INJURED fish to be photographed and reported; Any DYING fish to be caught and kept in landing net to be collected by EA. EMAIL radac_20204@outlook.com or message us through this page or use the mobile numbers on the lake noticeboard.
Some members will already be aware that we have lost some carp in the past 6 weeks. This is not unusual after spawning. However, the number has now reached the threshold for us to inform the Environment Agency – Great Ouse and Fenland Fisheries Team and they have visited the lake today. They have confirmed that oxygen levels are normal/high and have taken water away for testing. They have also confirmed that other fisheries are experiencing similar losses.
It is most likely that the carp deaths are due to weakened immune system post-spawning combined with rough-handling and or predatory bird attacks.
Therefore to protect fish stocks the EA have reccomended we take the actions listed above.
Thank you
